Overseas School of Colombo
The Overseas School of Colombo (OSC) is an independent, coeducational day school which offers an educational program from preschool through grade 12 for students of all nationalities. The School was founded in 1957. The school year comprises 2 semesters extending from August 17 to December 17 and from January 10 to June 16.

Organization: The School is governed by a 10-member Board of Directors, elected annually. No more than 2 members can be of the same nationality. The head of school is the chief administrator or executive officer.

Curriculum: The curriculum offered is from the International Baccalaureate Organization. Pre-school – grade 5 follow the IB primary years program, grade 6-10 follow the IB middle years program and grade 11-12 follow the IB Diploma program. In grades 9-12, students gain credits towards the OCS high school diploma. In primary, OSC offers specialist courses in physical education (including swimming), music, art, drama, information technology, home nation and French. English-as-a-second-language and special education needs department work throughout primary and middle school. In middle school, students study English, French or Spanish, math, science, drama, art, physical education (including swimming), information technology, humanities, personal and social education. In grade 10 students can choose French or Spanish, history or geography, drama or art. All other subjects are studied as in middle school. In grades 11-12 students study English, French or Spanish or beginners Japanese, math science (1 or 2 from biology, chemistry, environmental systems or physics), visual art or theatre arts, geography or history or economics, physical education and theory of knowledge. All these courses are IB courses and credit courses for the high school diploma.

Faculty: In the 2004-2005 school year, there are 59 full-time faculty members.

Enrollment: At the beginning of the 2004-2005 school year, enrollment was 365 (PS-grade 5: 176; and grades 6-12: 189).

Facilities: The School is located in a purpose-built facility on a 5-acre site near the parliamentary complex in the new administrative capital of Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte. It is equipped with 2 libraries, 3 art rooms, 3 science laboratories, 3 information technology centers, a home economics room, and an auditorium (under construction). There are also special areas for a music and a new drama teaching studio. Sports facilities include a playing field, a large gymnasium, and a 25-meter swimming pool.

Finances: In the 2004-2005 school year, the School's income derives from tuition. Annual tuition rates are as follows: PS: $5,347; Kdg.: $7,314; grades 1-5: $9,706, grades 6-8: $10,810; grades 9-10: $13,041; and grades 11-12: $13,581. The School also charges a one-time non-refundable registration fee of $2,300, a refundable deposit fee for PS-grade 5: $420 and grades 6-12: $840. All fees (excluding the refundable deposit) are subject to a value added tax which is charged at 10% currently. These fees are payable in Sri Lankan rupees or U.S. dollars. (All fees are quoted in U.S. dollars.)
