American School of The Hague
The American School of The Hague is an independent, coeducational day school, which offers a university-preparatory, U. S.-style educational program from Kdg. 1 through grade 12 for students of all nationalities. The School was founded in 1953. The school year comprises 2 semesters extending from mid-August to mid-June.

Organization: The School is governed by a Board of Trustees of 11 members, elected for 3-year terms by the parents of students enrolled.

Curriculum: Instruction is in English. The U. S.-based, college preparatory program includes a gifted program at the elementary and middle school and the Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate Programs in the high school. The School can accommodate a limited number of students with mild learning differences or disabilities. The learning support offered is complementary to the mainstream classroom only and a maximum of one session per day. French, Dutch, German, and Spanish are offered as second languages. There is no religious instruction. A broad program of extracurricular activities is offered. The School is fully accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and by the European Council of International Schools.

Faculty: In the 2005-2006 school year, there are 110 full-time and 31 part-time faculty members.

Enrollment: At the beginning of the 2005-2006 school year, enrollment was 1,050 (Kdg.1-grade 4: 355; grades 5-8: 340; and grades 9-13: 355).

Facilities: The School is housed in a purpose built, single-unit facility on an 11-acre campus in neighboring Wassenaar, 15 minutes north of the center of The Hague. The building includes separate elementary, middle and high school academic wings, specialized rooms for science (8), computer (6), music art, technology, and home economics. The computerized libraries house 70,000 volumes. Three gymnasiums, a double sport-hall, a 360-seat theatre and 2 cafeterias complement the academic units. The campus includes multiple playgrounds, a soccer field with adjacent fields for soccer and baseball, and car and bus parking.

Finances: In the 2005-2006 school year, about 96 percent of the School's income derives from regular day school tuition. Annual tuition rates are as follows: Kdg 1I (half day): €7,500; Kdg.I -grade 4: €12,300; grades 5-8: €14,100; grades 9-13: €14,900. In addition, there is an enrollment fee of €800 and a capital levy fee of €1,500 per year. (All fees are quoted in euros.)
