American School Foundation
The American School Foundation is an independent, coeducational school which offers an educational program from early childhood (age 4) through grade 12 for students of all nationalities. It was founded in 1888. The school year is composed of 2 semesters extending from approximately August 16 to December 20 and January 7 to June 12.

Organization: The School is governed by a 15-member Board of Trustees elected for 3-year terms by the American School Foundation. Membership in the Foundation is open to U.S. citizens living in Mexico. A nominal membership fee is charged. The School is incorporated in Mexico. It has been designated as tax-exempt under section 501(c) (3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code and has tax-exempt status under Mexican law.

Curriculum: The curriculum offers a U.S. college-preparatory program and requirements for Mexican university admission. Instruction is in English, with Spanish offered to complete host-country requirements. The School is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and is an International Baccalaureate Diploma Program affiliate. A large percentage of graduates attend colleges and universities in the United States.

Faculty: In the 2004-2005 school year, there are 280 full-time faculty members.

Enrollment: At the beginning of the 2004-2005 school year, enrollment was 2,497 (Kdg. – pre-first: 367; grades 1-5: 954; grades 6-8: 506; and grades 9-12: 670).

Facilities: The School occupies a 17-acre campus in Tacubaya, a suburb of Mexico City. There are 15 building including: central offices, an early childhood center, an elementary school, a middle school, a high school, 2 snack bars, 2 multi-purpose buildings (one of which includes a gymnasium, dressing and shower facilities), a covered pool; an auditorium; and 2 new indoor physical education facilities.

Finances: In the 2004-2005 school year, approximately 92% of the School’s income derives from tuition and registration fees. Annual tuition fees are as follows: Kdg.-pre-1: $5,913; grades 1-5: $7826; and grades 6-12: $8,696 Annual registration fees: Kdg.–pre-1st : $1,182; grades 1-5: $1,564; grades 6-8: $1,704; and grades 9-12: $1,739. (All fees are quoted in U.S. dollars.)
