International School Nido de Aguilas
The International School Nido de Aguilas, founded in 1934, is a private, coeducational day school, which offers a comprehensive educational program from pre-kindergarten through grade 12 for students of all nationalities. The academic year comprises 2 semesters extending from August 1st to December 19th and from mid-February to the end of June. The long vacation is from December through mid-February.

Organization: The School is governed by a Board of Directors consisting of a minimum of 9 members and a maximum of 13, elected for 3-year terms by the Educational Foundation Nido de Aguilas, the sponsor of the School. It is officially recognized by the Chilean Ministry of Education and accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

Curriculum: The curriculum offers a U.S. based, college-preparatory course of study leading to a U.S., Chilean or International Baccalaureate Diploma. Instruction is in English with language courses offered in Spanish at all levels. French is offered at the high school. There is an extensive computer science program offered in all grade levels. Art, band, chorus, and orchestra are offered in the middle and high schools in addition to Suzuki and music in the elementary school. The extra-curricular program includes drama, music, student government, and sports, among others. Most graduates go on to colleges and universities in the United States, Chile and other countries. The School offers limited assistance at the elementary level for children with very mild learning disabilities.

Faculty: In the 2004-2005 school year, there are 134 full-time (headmaster, administrators, nurses, librarians, counselors, teachers, teacher aides.

Enrollment: At the beginning of the 2004-2005 school year, enrollment was 1,167 (PK-Kdg.II: 205; grades 1-5: 438; grades 6-8: 251; and grades 9-12: 273).

Facilities: The school is located on a spacious park-like setting on the edge of the city in the foothills of the Andes. The library has 38,078 volumes and 30 student computers. There are 4 tennis courts, 1 soccer field and 1 baby soccer field, a gymnasium/assembly hall, an all-weather track, 2 indoor basketball courts, 2 outdoor basketball courts, 6 science laboratories, 5 computer labs, 4 art rooms, 5 music rooms, a cafeteria, a multi-purpose center, a counseling center and an Optimal Learning center for students requiring special assistance.

Finances: In the 2004-2005 school year, annual tuition rates are as follows: PK-Kdg.I: $5,400; Kdg.II-grade 12: $10,400. Tuition is payable in U.S. dollars or local currency at the current exchange rate. There is also a one-time incorporation fee of $8,000. (All fees are quoted in U.S. dollars.)
