American International School in Vienna
The American International School in Vienna is an independent, college preparatory, coeducational day school which offers an educational program from pre-kindergarten through grade 12 for students of all nationalities. The School also offers a post-graduate year. The School was founded in 1959. The school year comprises two semesters extending from mid-August through mid-January and from end of January to the beginning of June 2004.

Organization: The school is governed by a 13-member Executive Board, 10 of whom are elected annually by the Parents' Association which sponsors the School and one is appointed by the U.S. Ambassador. Membership of the Association is automatically conferred on the parents or guardians of children enrolled in the school. The School is incorporated under Austrian law and has been designated as tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code.

Curriculum: The curriculum is like that of U.S. college-preparatory private schools. The International Baccalaureate Diploma is also offered in a demanding two-year study plan. A few supplementary Advanced Placement courses and the Austrian Matura are also offered. The School's testing program includes College Board tests and standardized achievement tests. Instruction is in English. German is required, and French and Spanish are taught as modern languages. The School is not staffed or equipped to educate children with serious learning problems or emotional or behavioral difficulties. The School is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and is recognized by the Austrian Ministry of Education.

Faculty: In the 2004-2005 school year, there are 98 full-time and 8 part-time faculty members.
